Eighty Year ago on 15th. August 1945, all hostilies of the Second World War were brought to an end by the surrender of Emperor Hirohito of Japan. At the Bramley War Memorial we will remember and honour the many, often overlooked soldiers from England, its Commonwealth and Empire who fought bravely for justice in the Far East. Although few of the survivers may still be alive to join us on the day, Bramley will remember what was done by them and those who did not return to make the world a better place for those of us living today.
This year’s event will remember and honour the often forgotten heroes of the war in Japan still in active combat despite the surrender of Germany earlier in 1945. We will remember in particular all those who suffered and died in the Far East Campaign during the Second World War in an act of silence with prayers for Peace for all who wish to join in. The speech, given by His Majesty King George VI to the Nation and Commonwealth on VJ 1945 will be read. The event will begin around 11.40 am leading to a period of silence at 12.00 noon to match the national Act of Remembrance and end with an act of commitment to Peace. This event will remember and honour the often forgotten heroes of the war in Japan still in active combat despite the surrender of Germany earlier in 1945.
