DESCRIPTION:Act of RemembranceEighty years ago\, on 15th. August 1945\, all hostilities of the Second World War were brought to an end by the surrender of Emperor Hirohito of Japan.  At the Bramley War Memorial we will remember and honour the many\, often overlooked soldiers from England\, its Commonwealth and Empire who fought bravely for justice in the Far East. Although few of the survivers may still be alive to join us on the day\, Bramley will remember what was done by them and those who did not return to make the world a better place for those of us living today. \nOur Act of Remembrance will include an act of silence\, prayers for Peace for all who wish to join in and the speech\, given by His Majesty King George VI to the Nation and Commonwealth on VJ 1945 will be read. \nThe event will begin around 11.40 am leading to a period of silence at 12.00 noon to match the national Act of Remembrance and end with an act of commitment to Peace. \nAll are welcome to come along on the day.

The event will start at 10.40am. \nThe speech given by King George VI on VE Day in 1945 will be read. Wreaths will be laid as we remember especially over 200 service personnel from our local communities who gave their lives in service to their country during World WArd Two. \nIf you have any memories of VE Day in 1945\, we’d love to hear them and you can share them with us at the event. \nPLEASE DO COME AND JOIN US ON MAY 8TH.

We are very sorry that we cannot invite you  collectively to remember those who were fighting on the home front on the day itself\, but we are hoping to remember\, honour and thank them at an organised event to embrace both VE Day\, and VJ Day on 15th August. \nAs a mark of respect\, Norah Gibson\, a Friend of Bramley War Memorial and myself will (in a group of two only\, in line with Coronavirus advice) lay a single wreath at the memorial\, on behalf of the Bramley and Stanningley communities. We will do this at 3.00pm\, the exact time that Churchill delivered his speech. \nOur Union Flag will be flown and a lantern with lit  candle will be on display. \nIf you have any memories\, photos or memorabilia which has come in to the family through relatives we would be really pleased to see and share it for the purpose of making a book or something similar for access by our community.
